Weed Abatement
Overview
The City of Grand Terrace Code Enforcement Office and the San Bernardino County Land Use/Fire Hazard Abatement Division inspect open area parcels, homes that have a significant amount of tall weeds growing on the property, and respond to complaints regarding weeds. If the Code Enforcement Office determines your property could be a hazard and/or is an eye-sore to the surrounding neighborhood, residents could receive a weed abatement order in the mail.

Property maintenance is required per the City of Grand Terrace Municipal Code 8.04.020.

Residents can receive Notices of Violation, County Weed Abatement Notices, citations and fines if weeds are not removed. The City and the County encourage all residents to take pro-active measures for weed control. A few tips include cutting your grass on a regular basis, removing weeds before they accumulate and become a large problem, and laying mulch, bark, or other landscape material in your garden bed to inhibit the growth of new and existing weeds.

Types of Weeds
Foxtails, crabgrass, thistle, and dandelions are just a few types of weeds that can quickly spread throughout your property. Removing those unwanted weeds will reduce the spread to other yards in your neighborhood as well as your own. Excessive weed growth can also harbor rats and other vermin creating a potential health hazard for you, your family, and your neighbors.

There are several methods for removing weeds:

  • Remove with a hoe or shovel
  • Cut with a weed eater
  • Mow with a tractor or hire a licensed weed abatement specialist

We encourage residents to remove the weeds to prevent potential fire hazards in the near future.

The County of San Bernardino Land Use Services and the City of Grand Terrace Code Enforcement Department actively issue weed abatement notices throughout the year. If you receive a notice and have questions, please contact the issuing agency:
