The City of Grand Terrace Child Care Services provides a warm and nurturing environment in which children can grow and learn. Teacher-directed activities are planned and implemented specifically for the progression of learning in physical, intellectual, social, and emotional development. We believe that children learn through play and hands-on experiences as they develop new skills and practice old ones; experience new concepts from the manipulation of toys and equipment; and develop successful relationships through interactions with other children and adults. |

Keeping in mind the age level, different methods of discipline are successful for each child. Before a ‘time away’, a teacher helps a child remember the rules by; giving a quick verbal reminder, speaking with the child about why and how the rule came to be, giving them ideas of some better choices, mimicking proper behavior, redirecting the child or refocusing their attention on other things, If the child does not respond, a ‘time away’ from the activity allows the child to think deeply about his actions and his choices. Then, the teacher will begin close communication with administrative staff and parents. At this level, a parent meeting may be called and a discussion about the problem areas is reviewed, and ideas shared. If no improvement is observed, written reports may occur. After three written reports, a child may be removed from our program. There is no corporal punishment allowed. |
